How Adsense checks for false clicks

We always hear that Google has a sophisticated system to detect the invalid clicks, and result in termination of the cheaters' account. But, how can Google do that? In this post, I summarize those ways that Google depends on to detect whether the clicks on your site are invalid or not. Google will not first ban your account immediately. Rather, they will first flag your account and Google will keep a closer eye to your account. In some occasion, they may send you a warning letter to notify your situation; but sometimes not.

1. IP Address

It is the easist and must be recognized by everyone. If those clicks on your ads are originated from the same IP Address as the one used for accessing your AdSense account, your account is flagged.

2. Click Through Rate (CTR)

Normally, Click thru Rate should not excees 10%. Otherwise, Google will flag your account. For your information, normal CTR should ranges from 0.5% - 10%.

3. Physical Location

Google has good tracing software and technology. They can trace traffics origin down to the small town. So, using different computers with different IP address does not secure anything. So, don't try to click your ads in various internet cafes. That will kill you.

4. Cookies

Most home users do not use static IP Address for Internet connection. In most cases just disconnect and reconnect will give you a new IP Address. But don't forget, Google has set cookies on your computer. They can trace these cookies and see whether they originate from the same computer.

5. Click Pattern 1

It is also suspicious when people click on their clicks and then run away immediately (hit-and-run). But normally, people will surf for a while inside your pages and then click on the ads they want.

6. Click Pattern 2

why this computer / IP address / person is so trigger-click-happy on this particular website but never click on the ads on other sites?

7. Click Pattern 3

And why is it that people accessing these sites direct (type-in URL or from bookmark) tend to be very active ad-clickers compared with those referred from search engine or other sites?

9.Other Google Services

Apart from Google Adsense, Google also provide a series of services to us. Don't just think that it is safe if you do not log in your adsense account and click on your ads. What other Google services do they provide to us? Here are some: Gmail (most poeple are using it), Google Earth, Google Calendar, Google Search, Google Toolbar, Google Talk, Google Sitemap, Google Desktop, Blogger, or even Youtube (coz Google has just recently acquired it).

10. Search Engine Ranking

Your website is not indexed on any search engine, not linked by any prominent website, but get consistently high traffic? How come people can access your website and click your ads? That will make Google to smell a rat.

11. Webpage design

How about the "Please click a link below" or "donate us by clicking the ads"? These kinds of encouragement is not in line with Google's TOS. Google can use their winning search engine, or even human eyes to check your sites from time to time.

12. Advertisers conversion rate

Ad click is one thing. But does it bring value to the advertisers? If none of the clicks on your site translate to conversion to the advertiser, you are in trouble. First the Smart-Pricing hits, then your AdSense account disabled.

Placing Ads at the bottom of the post

Placing Google Ads at the bottom of your post is very simple to do following these step-by-step instructions for the New Version of Blogger Customized Design Template.

Go to Dashboard Click on Blog Layout Click on Edit HTML Check the Expand Widget Template box

Scroll down your template about 1/2 the way and look for:Find this area in your template and be ready to copy and paste your Google AdSense code below it.

Paste Google Adsense Code hereNow lets get the AdSense code and make a few changes. I know you're going to say that's against Google's TOS, however, these are acceptable changes because we are not altering the AdSense code in anyway.

Open new browser window Go to your Google AdSense account Click on AdSense for Content Choose Ad Unit Choose Format and Colors Add ChannelLook for the two brackets in red <> at the top and bottom section of Google's AdSense code shown below. Replace these brackets to look like this <!-- and //-->

That's it and now you're ready to Copy and Paste the AdSense code into your template in the specified area mentioned above. Save Template. Done! Thanks to Louis at Blogging Secret for sharing this information with all of us.

Wrapping text around Adsense Ads

Wrapping text around Google's AdSense is a nice way to show ads that blend with your content and appear to be part of your post or you could show them in high contrast colors to be more noticable. The ads will be relevant to what you are writing about and this is a great way to provide your readers with more information pertaining to their Google search or just surfing the net. For full post with step-by-step instructions, continue reading.

You can experiment with many different formats and see what works best for you. I have chosen a 250x250 ad format to wrap text around my Google ad as found here in this example on Funniest Stories blog. Hey, by the way don't forget to send me your "real life funniest story" when we're finished here so I can add it to my blog, that would be much appreciated!

Now let's get back to learning how you're going to wrap text around your Google ads by following this example of code below. Notice the table align=left align=right at the beginning of the Google ad (you can always change the left and right position depending on which side of your post you want the ad to be located). Now go to the bottom and notice the closing tag of td tr table. I can't put this html code in my post so you will need to type this extra code at the beginning and end of your Google AdSense code. Better yet you can go to the Page Source of Funniest Stories and look for my Google AdSense code, then copy and paste the needed code to add at the beginning and end of your AdSense code.

Please review a previous post explaing the Simplest Way to Place AdSense Within Your Post. You will need to make a few changes for putting Google ads within the New Version of Blogger template.

10 ways to increase your CTR and CPM

Here are ten ways in which you can improve your adsense CPMs and CTRs.

Use Section Targeting:

Adding section targetting had the biggest single impact on increasing my CTR, increasing mine by nearly 50% overnight. Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you’d like Google to emphasise or downplay when matching ads to your site’s content

Work on your keyword density:

Getting a good mix between keyword density and readability is crucial. Not only will increasing your keyword density improve your search engine listings, but it will make it easier for Adsense to decide what ads to serve e.g. if you want ads about ‘Playstations’ displayed, then make sure you repeat the word Playstation as many times as possible

Make Your Ads Look Like Normal Content:

I’m amazed by how many sites use different colours, shading, borders, fonts etc for their ads. Adsense gives a lot of controls over colours and you should use them. Make sure your ads look like the rest of your site e.g. if the rest of your site has a white background, then so should your banners etc.

Make Sure Your Best Unit Loads First:

Adsense loads the ads with the highest CPM first. A common mistake of many sites is to have an ad unit in the header, which isn’t usually the best unit for clicks. This means that ads nearer the content which tend to have higher CTRs get ads served with lower CPMs. The net effect is that you lose money. To maximise your cash make sure that your best performing unit loads first on your pages

Embed Your Banners In Or Near Your Content:

Your users are normally focussing on the post they have chosen to read, so ads near your post content will always have the best CTRs. Huge skyscraper ads in your sidebar or header may look impressive, but taking up lots of space isn’t the best way to get users to click on ads
I have seen lots of sites that have implemented this incorrectly in my view by putting their ads directly above their post content. I think this is a mistake as all it does in my view is encourage the user to scroll past their ads, rather than read the ads first, which I think is the desired objective.

Think About Where Your Hotspots Are:

Try and position your secondary ads where you think your users may be lingering on your page, e.g. at the end of your posts, before and after your comments etc. For instance my link ad unit above my related posts below does very well, even though it is way below the fold. Read this post for more ideas of places to try your ads

Reduce The Noise Around Your Units:

Try to keep any unnecessary links, badges, logos etc away from your best units, so that nothing, and I mean nothing, gets in the way of users seeing your ads. Look at the ad I have in my hotspot at the top on the left. I have removed anything that obscures the ad e.g. post details, categories, tags, author etc - all I have is the post title, the content and the ad.This is also one of the reasons I have my sidebar on the right, even though it would be more effective on the left, as positioning this ad unit is the number priority for my site design as it delivers 75% of my adsense income

Use The Competitive Ad Filter:

The purpose of the Competitive Ad Filter is to enable you to block specific ads. If you don’t use the Competitive ad filter you run the risk of low ‘Made For Adsense’ ads being displayed. Read more

Don’t Be Afraid To Put Your Ads Below The Fold:

This goes against conventional wisdom, but it can work. For instance I found that my Skyscraper adsense ad on the right performs better below the fold than it does above the fold. This is because it is placed near the end of my average length posts, i.e. near a ‘hotspot’
Use Channels And Experiement: You will only find the right positions and units for your ads by experimenting. But, to see if any of your changes are making an impact you need to use Adsense Channels. Create a seperate channel for each ad unit that you use and start a spreadsheet where you keep notes of what changes you made, and what the impact was on your CTR and eCPM rates

10 Tips To Improve your Adsense Earnings

Make The Most Of Google Love

One of the common reasons bloggers don’t make a lot of money from Google Adsense is because they don’t write about topics that people are searching for answers on i.e. using Google. Just writing interesting articles isn’t going to get you a lot of clicks on ads as your readers won’t be searching for answers or certain products.

If you take a look at my top posts in the sidebar you will see that most of the posts are giving tips, or useful links for services, or are product reviews i.e. posts that get lots of Google love which sends lots of click happy people through to my site. If you post more articles of this ilk your adsense earnings will increase. These articles are also timeless and will continue to get Google traffic long after my regular readers have moved onto newer material.

To maximise your Google traffic don’t forget the basics like making sure your post titles are clear and that your first paragraph clearly explains what the post is about, so that even if you are not the top result you have increased your chances of being clicked on. Take a look at my top posts - every one of the post titles makes it clear what the post is about, which is why they do well on Google.

Smart Pricing - Less Is Better

I’m stunned by how many blogs haven’t factored in Google Adsense Smart pricing into their site design. If you haven’t come across Adsense Smart Pricing before, then in one sentence this is where Google looks at your site’s overall CTR and if it’s low then it will display lower value ads and if it’s high it will display higher value ads.

So, for many sites a quick way to improve earnings is to actually display fewer ads i.e. to remove poorly performing ad units like sidebar ads, or ads that are below the fold etc. This will increase your site’s average CTR, which will make Google display higher value ads in your better performing spaces which will raise your overall earnings.

Smart Pricing works across your Adsense account, not just on a site by site basis. So, if you are displaying a significant number of Adsense ads on other sites that have a poor CTR then you should remove them as your main sites will benefit.

If You’re Going To Place Ads Put In Best Spots - Don’t Kop Out

In my view, if you are going to run ads on your site then it doesn’t make sense to do it half-heartedly i.e not put your ads in the best slots. If you do you’ll never get to see the full benefits - if you’re going to do something in my view, then do it right!

Blend Your Adsense Units

Following on from the previous tip, again if you are going to add Adsense ads to your site then again I think you should make sure that they are fully optimised. The best way of doing this is to blend the ads into your site by making sure that the text and link colours match.

To maximise CTR you should also wrap text around your ads. Many sites have tried placing ads above text or even before articles, but in my opinion this is a bad move, as all it does is encourage readers to ‘jump’ past your ads straight to the content.

Get A Good Stats Package

One of the difficulties with Google Adsense as it’s virtually impossible to see for certain which posts have a high CTR. But, if you have a good stats package then at least you can see which of your posts are popular so that you can try and write more of the same to further grow your traffic.

Rewrite Best Articles So That Better Ads Appear

In tandem with working out what your best articles are, you should manually see what kind of ads are displaying on your bigger posts. Take for instance my number one post. The ads that were originally being displayed were awful and the post itself was only about one line long.
However, once I spotted the crazy Google traffic I went back and rewrote the post so that it included links to other related posts and improved the keyword density so that better Adsense ads are now displayed.

Reduce Noise Around Ad Units

One of the best ways to improve your Adsense CTR is to reduce the amount of noise around your ads. If you are serious about increasing your CTR then you want to limit the amount of other links and noise around your units.

For instance, take my best performing unit at the top of my posts which accounts for around 80-90% of my adsense income. Have you noticed how I don’t even have a post stamp near it? The only ‘noise’ near that unit is the title because I can’t sensibly move it! No author name, categories, ratings, tags etc in sight.

Don’t Use Competitive Ad Filter - Trust Google

This one may be a bit controversial, but I fully believe that to increase Adsense Earnings you shouldn’t use the competitive filter and that you should trust Google, as Google will always display the ad it thinks will work best on your site and which has the highest CPC. If this turns out to be one of the ads that you’ve blocked, then all you are actually doing is reducing your potential earnings. I believe that you should only use the competitive filter to eliminate competitor ads, not in an attempt to increase Adsense earnings.

Get An Adsense Optimised Theme

I couldn’t finish this list without plugging my Adsense Optimised theme. I have lost count of the number of people who have thanked me after they have changed their theme to Typo XP Reloaded. Having a theme that’s designed for adsense can make a huge, huge difference.
If you are attached to your current theme then try and make tweaks that will help your CTR e.g. do you need that huge bright header that is pushing your ads below the fold and is only creating more ‘noise’? Should you use nice blue links that everyone knows means ‘click here’ rather than that funky link colour you like because it matches your wallpaper?
I hope you found these tips useful, or at least they’ve given you food for thought. As always feel free to share any of your tips or comments below.

What is eCPM?

eCPM is a bit of industry shorthand that seems here to stay. You've seen it listed in your AdSense reports; it means, "effective cost per thousand impressions." So how is eCPM calculated, you ask?

eCPM is calculated by dividing total earnings by total number of impressions in thousands. It is a great performance measure for your various ad units, so when experimenting, you can use eCPM to compare your results.

But what if your site doesn't receive enough impressions to have a large sample size? Even for smaller sites, eCPM can be a useful statistic to track ad performance.

For example, let's imagine we have two custom channels named 'Blue Skyscrapers' and 'Red Rectangles', respectively, which reflect the types of ad formats we're testing on our site. During our test, the 'Blue Skyscrapers' channel receives 370 page impressions and $1.48 in total earnings. The 'Red Rectangles' channel receives 187 page impressions and $0.97 in earnings over the same period. To make these figures more comparable we calculate eCPM -- i.e., the estimated earnings for every 1,000 impressions received. We find that eCPM for blue skyscrapers is $4.00 while the eCPM for red rectangles is $5.18.

This means if we received 1,000 impressions of blue skyscrapers, we would earn roughly $4.00. But for 1,000 impressions of red rectangles, we would earn about $5.18. Therefore, assuming that our sample size is large enough , it is to our advantage to switch to red rectangles throughout our site because they generate more revenue per impression.

Google Smart Pricing

If you join the Adsense Help Group for a while, then it is not hard for you to know that many people question about Smart Pricing. What is Smart Pricing? Why your earning per click seems to decrease a lot with time? In this post, I want to explain to you what Smart Pricing is and how it operates.

Recently, Google has developed a new way to decide how much you earn through your Adsense ads with their new Smart Pricing formula. There is a hidden formula by Google to calculate the revenue earned. Letz check it out.

1. Many factors determine the price of an ad

More than conversion rate goes into determining the price of an ad: the advertiser's bid, the quality of the ad, the other ads competing for the space, the start or end of an ad campaign, and other advertiser fluctuations.

2. Clickthrough rate doesn't affect advertiser return on investment (ROI)

The percentage of clicks that convert for an advertiser is the most important factor in an advertiser's ROI, so it's not only possible, but common, to have a low CTR and a high advertiser conversion rate. It's also possible to have a high CTR and a low conversion rate. Don't remove the AdSense code from your site just because it has a lower CTR - it may be one of your best converting sites.

3. Google doesn't make money from 'smart pricing'.

In fact, we make less money, since the cost to advertisers is reduced in order to provide a strong ROI. Ultimately, this leads to higher payouts for publishers by drawing a larger pool of advertisers and rewarding publishers who create high quality sites.

4. Remember that "Content is King".

The best way to ensure you benefit from AdSense is to create compelling content for interested users. This also means driving targeted traffic to your site -- advertisers don't gain as much ROI when paying for generic clicks as they do for quality clicks that come from interest in your content. Good content usually equals a good experience for user plus advertiser, which can be much more valuable than CTR.

Role of keywords in earning!!

What are Keywords?

These are the words and phrases used by browsers when using Search Engines. Search Engines then use those keywords to generate a list of results with links to web sites where those keywords appear most relevant. Keywords are also very important for advertising too! In the case of Adsense, Google will crawl your site after your application, in order to let them to display targeted and related ads on your site. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce some key terminologies about Google keywords. Please kindly leave a comment if you have any problem or suggestion.

1. Keyword Popularity

To find out which keywords are being used by your target audience, you can use tools like Overture™ Keyword Selector Tool. Enter keywords you believe your audience would use and Overture will let you know how many times over the past month that keyword was used. More importantly, they will provide you with similar keywords and keyword phrases. Following this trail can often lead to categories of keywords you may have overlooked.

2. Regional Keywords

Be aware not only of how browsers are searching, but also from where they are searching. In this case, geographical location is also another important factor. In an effort to receive more targeted results, browsers will often include geographic keywords in their searches. In the case of Adsense, it is not hard for you to see some ads in the language of your own country. This is the result of geographic targeting of Adsense. Developing a keyword list that takes into account regional keywords can effectively cut the number of web sites you are competing with for SE results and at that the same time deliver more qualified traffic to your Web Site.

3. Keyword List Development

Once you have determined which keywords and phrases are being used, you can develop a hierarchy of keywords and phrases. This keyword list should be used extensively throughout a Web Site for things like Search Engine Optimization and Pay/Click Campaigns, developing Web Site navigation, design, and content, and for determining Web Site success.

4. Know How Browsers Search

Combining keywords is a powerful technique in Search Engine Optimization. Most browsers (81%) are using more than one word when conducting online searches. 49% of browsers are entering 3 words or more. The trend seems to be that browsers are getting more sophisticated in how they conduct their searches. They are realizing that one word searches do not deliver very specific results and quickly discover how to get more relevant search results. Below is a chart showing how many keywords browsers are entering in a search engine when conducting searches.

5. Vertical Keyword Categories

Seldom will one category of related keywords cover all the ways your target audience may be trying to find you. For this reason it is important to identify the vertical categories (regional categories are the most common) and develop areas on your Web Site specific to each. Combining these categories on one page will only cut the relevancy of each category in half when indexed by a Search Engine.

Building up an effective Adsense site!!!

1. Niche
Create a niche site with enough advertisers and high paying keyword, but not crowded with too much competition. This post brings out nicely how to get the idea for a good niche. While being written mainly for community/forum site, it sure applies to whatever website that you plan to do.When you found the niche / keyword that you like, try to do a search at google. 10 millions result is not good - it's too competitive. It is much harder to climb to the top search engine result page if there are 10 million competitors compared with 1 thousand competitors. If it is too crowded, drop that keyword and find another one. But beware if it is too low too. Very likely that indicates a low interest in your chosen topic. Try to find somewhere between 10,000 results to 500,000 results.

Then, use overture keyword tool to find number of searches done for your keyword. While low search number does not mean it is not good, you can get an estimate of how popular your niche is.

2. Advertisment Keyword

Now that you find a niche for your website, you want to put keywords to drive the ads. Please note that this can be different from your niche keyword.Use a not very high paying keyword for you niche, to get around the competition. But to get advertisments that pays well, use also high paying keywords in the contents, slightly less than the main niche keywords.
This is because adsense will serve ads that it thinks will perform best, and most of the times that means highest paying keyword. Keep in mind tough, that it should still be related. Otherwise, the visitors will have no interest to click on the adsense ads. To gauge how much keywords are priced, use this overture bid tool.

3. Content & TrafficNow that you have decided what your site is about, you need to bring in traffic to your website.First and foremost, you need contents. Write original contents for your site, the more the merrier. Write keyword-targetted contents to get search engine ranking. Most of the times, search engine will become major source of your traffic, so pay attention to the Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) techniques. Write well for human too, it can bring incoming links from people who likes what you write.

One of the best way to create traffic is to write article and submit to article submission sites. If your article is good, it will be posted by many webmasters. In exchange, they will provide put links to your site at the end of the article. It can help in two ways. With more incoming links, your site will rank higher in search engine. At the same time, readers who found that your article is useful will go to your website.

4. Advertisement Placement

Generally, advertisement CTR (click through rate- number of clicks per number of times advertisement are shown) range from 2% to 10%. If lower than 2%, that means there is room for improvements you can do to increase your income. If it is higher than 10%, however, it may raise the red flag of click-fraud.
Where and how you place your advertisments is one factor that will determine your CTR. The best way to find optimum placement form is to keep on testing. You can try different location, format, color, etc.Generally, the placement that are most popular are above fold, with 336 x 280 rectangle, the 300 x250 rectangle or the 160 x 600 sky scraper format, using color that blends with the contents.
Take note also of number of ads you put on the page. Google Adsense serves ads based on best performing one. When you put too many ads on the page, while it increase number of ads your visitor can click, the ads clicked might be the low paying ones.

20 Most common mistakes done in Adsense

I am quite sure that you must hear, from time to time, some people have their adsense account being banned. Of course, Google would not ban your account without any reasons. There must be some reasons or mistake that a person has made, so that Google has the concrete evidence to terminate your Adsense account. In the light of that, I would like to take this chance to write a post that share the common mistakes that you may make. I hope, after reading this post, you can avoid doing such silly mistakes and avoid being banned.

1. Do not place more than 3 ad units and 1 ad link or 2 adsense search boxes on any web page. Although Google will automatically dispaly the maximum number of ads in your page , even if you have paste more than permitted, it is a wise way for you to follow the rule.

2. Never click your own adsense ads or ask friends/ relatives to click them. I think this is the golden rule that everyone knows and familiars with. This is a surefire way to close you Adsense account. Never tell your relatives or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Very often, people click their own ads simply becasue they are curious on what is behind the ads. That's why they click and open the ads. This is absolutely forbidden! If you really want to see what is behind your ads, use Google Preview tool if required. You can have more inforamtion on that at: http://adsense.hkessay.com/2006/11/how-to-use-adsense-preview-tool.html

3. Never change the Adsense code. There are enough means of adsense optimization & customizations available to change the colour, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to colour and placement, but you should adhere to the rules. The code may stop working and violates the TOS.

4. Do not run competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site which offer Google Adsense competition in their field. Never try to create link structures resembling the adsense ads. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have Adsense powered Google search. They do allow affiliate or limited-text links.

5. One Account suffices for Multiple websites. You do not need to create 5 accounts for 5 different websites. One account will do. If you live in the fear that if one account is closed down for violation of TOS, believe me they will close all accounts when they find out. You can keep track of clicks by using channels with real time statistics. They will automatically detect the new site and display relevant ads.

6. Place ads only on Content Pages. Google states very clearly that pages should not be made for the sole purpose of showing ads. Hence, you need to have content inside your page(s). Content drives relevant ads. Although you might manage some clicks from error, login, registration, "thank you" or welcome pages, parking pages or pop ups, it will get you out of the program.

7. Do not mask your ads with other elements. Alteration of colours and border is a facility to blend or contrast ads as per your site requirements. I have seen many sites where the url part is of the same colour as the background. While blending the ad with your site is a good idea, hiding relevant components of the ads is not allowed. Although nowadays Google has a tool that automatically detect the background color and chaneg the color of URL of ads, even if you have the same color for both URL of the ads and background. Also do not block the visibility of ads by overlapping tables, pop ups, images etc.

8. Do not disclose confidential information about your account like the CTR, CPM and income derived via individual ad units or any other confidential information they may reveal to you. This mistake actually is quite uncommon to most webmasters. They often display such statistics since they do not aware of this rule. On the other hand, revealing the total money you make as per recent updates to the Google TOS.

9. Label headings as "sponsored links" or "advertisements" only. Other labels are not allowed. I often see many sites label ads with other titles. For example, "Click me...", "Please make a donation by clicking ads" etc. Even if you do not paste such words above, or in close vicinity to Google Ads, you should not have these wordings. It is because these wordings, to a certain extent, provide incentives for visitors to click ads whihc is definitely against Google TOS.

10. Only single referral button per product per page - With the launch of the google adsense referral program, you are allowed to put only one referral button for adsense referral, adwords referral, and Firefox with google toolbar referral. On the other hand, you can have four links in total in each page for four different products. This means that you cannot provide links for all the referral products that Google provides. There are, in fact, 5 different products from Google.

11. Do not specify Google ads as your alternate ads. - Several services like Chitika eminimalls allow you to place alternate urls, when a targeted paying ad cannot be displayed. This involved creating an simple html page and putting the ad to be displayed instead. Even Adsense allows an alternate url feature instead of displaying public service ads. But never use Adsense ads as alternate urls.

12. Add Borders betweem Images and text ads - It was a common policy to increase CTR by placing same number of images as the number of text ads, which falsely gave the impression that the text ads represented an explanation to these images. In order to cope with that, you should insert a border when placing images and text ads in such a manner, to avoid confusing readers to falsely click ads. It is not worth to do such risk.

13. Never launch a New Page for clicked ads by default. Many Adsenser do ask from time to time whether Ads can be shown on a new page or not. The answer is NO! Adsense ads should open on the same page. You may be using a base target tag to open all links in a new window or frame by default. Correct it now as they do not want new pages opening from clicked ads.

14. Keep track of your content. So Adsense is not allowed on several non content pages. But it is also not allowed on several content pages too. Do not add it on web pages with MP3, Video, News Groups, and Image Results. Also exclude any adult content, hate-related, violent, or illegal content.

15. Do not alter the results after ad clicks or searches - Ensure you are not in any way altering the site which the user reaches to after clicking the ads. Do not frame, minimize, remove, redirect or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Advertiser Page or Search Results Page after the user clicks on any Ad or Search results.

16. Do not send your ads by email. Html formatted emails look good and allow placement of these javascript ads. But it is not allowed in Google TOS. You do not want impressions registering on their logs from any email even once. Remember Google has sophisticated softwares!

17. Avoid excessive advertising and keyword stuffing - Although the definition of "excessive" is a gray area and is subject to discretion, yet Google adsense with correct placement, focused content and high traffic will get you much more income than other programs, so excessive advertising is not required. Keyword stuffing does target better focused ads, but overdoing it is not required.

18. Ensure you Language is Supported - Adsense does support a series of languages, including Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), French, Russian, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Swedish, Italian and Turkish, Japanese, Danish, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, English, Polish, Finnish, Portuguese. If your web pages language is not supported, do not use the code on such pages. If you are not sure whether the lanuage of your home country is supported or not, please ask Google or leave a comment here~

19. You should not join those programs like piad-to-surf-, paid-to-click, or even traffic exchange programs. Google have very sophisticated detection system to detect these programs. Also, don't use some sort of deceptive tools in order to have automatic clicks on your ads. Again, Google can detect them quite efficiently.

20.Work Hard to make it!!!!

How to build a good Adsense site?

What do you think about your adsense performance? Do you think you have a formula to success? High traffic? Content? Not really? I am going to write this post, in order to tell you more what should be included in this formula.

The trick to putting up an Adsense site that actually makes money is this: You need to have a site that displays ads with the most profitable keywords available and get traffic to your site the cheap way (or even free of charge) as possible.

So how do you know what are the most profitable keywords? You can use the Google AdWords Traffic estimator. The basic functionality is available for anyone to use, even without an AdWords account. Just enter your keywords in the text box at the top. You can leave all the other fields blank for now. Push the Continue button at the bottom of the page and you will see how much each of your keywords costs to get the #1-3 spot in Google AdWords.

How does this help you to find profitable Adsense keywords? First of all, you are splitting the price of the keyword with Google every time someone clicks on your ad. The actual percentage is not know, but most experts agree that it is about 50%. If a keyword costs $20 for the number 1 spot and someone clicks an ad on your page that uses that keyword, then you will get somewhere around $10!

You should know that high priced keywords do not mean high levels of traffic. The traffic estimator will also tell you the number of clicks per day that each keyword is getting in the number one spot. What you need are keywords that are a balance between the most money and the most clicks per day.

Another thing you need to know before building an Adsense site is which keywords to use to bring in the most traffic. You don't want to go up against ten million other sites that are all talking about the same thing that you are. What you need is a niche topic, something that people are hungry for information about. Here is a step by step process for finding a niche topic.Download a free keyword tool from http://goodkeywords.com.

When you get it, enter the most general keyword about your topic that you can find. It will give you a list of related keywords from the Overture search engine along with the number of times each one of those keywords was searched for in the last month.

For every keyword that the Good Keywords gives you, enter the following search into Google: allintitle:yourkeyword. Look at the number of results that Google displays for each keyword.Divide the number of results by the number of searches and you will come up with what is commonly referred to as the R/S ratio. In economics, this is called Supply/Demand.
Look for keywords that have a high number of search, but a low R/S ratio. I wouldn't choose any keyword unless there were at least 1000 searches per month and an R/S ratio of 2.0 or less.Take the most profitable keywords in this group and build your Adsense pages around them.Alright, so you have the most profitable keywords that are in high demand. You now need to have some content related to each keyword in order to get Goggle to put the right kind of ads on your page. You can either write this content yourself, or you can go to one of the many free article websites on the net and grab some free articles related to your keyword. Just make sure to give the author credit for the article, it's not nice to steal.

Once you have your article, start putting your Adsense ads in the middle of the article, about once every few paragraphs or so. I have found that this is the most effective way to get people to click on your ads. You are allowed up the three sets of Adsense ads per page, so place them wisely.

That is really all there is to making a profitable Adsense site. Just find the best keywords, get some articles about them, add your Adsense to them, drive traffic to these pages, and start making money.

Tips to Drive Traffic

1. Optimize Your Website

It is a matter of SEO. Maybe you have never heard of it. Even though you heard about it already, not everyone is familiar with it. In fact, Search engines will look at both the internal and external profile of your website while assigning a rank to a web page.Internal profile of a website (which is so-called On-Page Optimization) includes usage of meta tags, heading tags, keywords, targeted content, and internal linking of website. External profile of your website defines the websites that are linking to your website. It also defines the pages where your link is placed. Besides, it identifies the Page Ranking of those pages along with the placement of your link. And it also includes the number of inward links you are getting. Using the relevant keywords in anchor text gives a boost to rankings on the search engine result pages (SERPs). For more information on On-page optimization, please refer to our relevant posts in Da Adsense Code.

2. Linking Your website

After talking about the on-page optimization, here comes to off-page optimization. More often, webmasters only focus on on-page optimization, and neglect the presence of off-page optimization. In the world of internet, there are two kinds of links - External Links and Internal Links. External Links define the websites that are linking to your websiteInternal whereas Links refer to the internal linking of web pages. Getting links from other websites is the most powerful tool to drive traffic to your website. The results are instantaneous and highly effective. Getting links from quality websites with higher PR and proper anchor text definitely helps your site a lot and results in more fruitful traffic from search engines. Half the battle is won if you are able to provide the links in abundance. There are many tools available for automatically building links to your website. There are some link exchange directories on the net which are a good support in link building campaigns. However, the use of these support systems depend entirely on your beliefs and strategies. Proper inter-linking (that is intra-linking) of your web pages is also relevant and significant in driving traffic.

3. Post Articles

It is important that you publish and post more and more articles on the net or article websites. This gives you an advantage as it gets incoming links to your website. Posting unique articles catering to the interest of a large number of readers is also an effective way of driving organic traffic to your website. Well written articles bring more traffic to your website. More traffic means more profit for you. It is observed that as the PR of your website increases, the AdSense payouts also increase. You can hope to get many more internal links to your website through this medium. Search engines take into account the number of quality back links while assigning rank to your website. If visitors reading your articles are interested, they will check out your website and you will have increased number of links. In comparison to the links that point to other websites from your website, the links that point to your website give more points to your rankings.

4. Anchor Text

Anchor Text refers to the clickable text of a hyperlink. Anchor Text plays an important role with regard to the target traffic as well as the search engine rankings. An appropriate Anchor Text apprises the visitors of the content of the page it links to.Besides, Anchor Text gives a real clue to the search engines regarding the content of the web page it links to. The right Anchor Text improves your website's search engine ranking. That's why it's imperative to pick the Anchor Text astutely.Google reckons Anchor Text to be an indicator of the page relevance. Google, using its special operator "allinanchor:keyword", separately indexes the Anchor Text. Given below are some tips for choosing the right Anchor Text that suits the search engine algorithms, and attracts the right traffic.

5. Tools

To a lesser extent, website tools makes your website user friendly. It is recommended that you make use of the tools that are visitor friendly. New scripts and innovative schemes for the visitor help you get more inward links. This in turn builds traffic to your website. You should add the tools that are attractive. For example, you can offer free e-books, or introduce new exciting sections relevant to your website. This will make your website exciting for the visitors. Google loves unique content. It richly rewards the websites that provide more content and better facilities to the visitors. Google likes genuine of traffic coming to your website from Ad Sense network. Genuine traffic yields higher payouts. Website tools makes your website a genuine one. The credibility of your website increases the probability of your website getting high paying ads via Google.

6. Target Niche Keywords

It is important for you to identify the niche markets. This will enable you to fetch the traffic that has not been targeted much, and at the same time gels well with your industry. If your competitor is leading with X traffic on one keyword, you can compete with him by targeting ten niche keywords. This will give you the same amount of traffic. Keyword country provides you with hordes of niche keywords. These niche keywords bring more target traffic to your web pages. This results in a better ROI (if you are selling products or affiliates) or an increased Adsense CTR (Click Thru Ratio) of your ads.

Methods to get Traffic

Blog is the one of the most popular medium that enables publishers to start earning money with Adsense. Content is the very first thing that you need to have. After that, driving traffic to your blog is also a very difficult part. Questions on driving traffic to the blog are always the most popular question to be raised in Adsense Help Discussion Group. Joing PPC advertising program can be one effecive way, but not every blog publisher can affor to pay to join such program. In this post, I am going to discuss three quickest yet free method that drive the first stream of traffic to your blog.

1. Post messages and leave signature on related forums/ groups

Just like what I normally do in Adsense Group. Leaving the URL of your blog as the signature is quite effective in driving traffic to your site. All you have to do is find some forums or groups that are related to your area of interest. Just like my blog, who is talking about making money with Adsense, I choose the Adsense Help Group as my primary forum to leave messages. Of course, if you have time, you can find out more related forums by searching through various Search Engines.Go to a few that you find informative and read around a bit.

Join a couple of the forums, that you find interesting and are of value to you, as a member. However, one thing to remind you is that you should check out two things before joining any forum after doing searching.- A forum must be indexed by the search engines, particularly by Google. If it's indexed, your posts will appear as backlinks to your site, raising your blog's PR (PageRank) in the search engines. You can gain search engine traffic as a result.- A forum must also permit the use of a signature file. By creating a signature, that includes your blog URL, you have a link that brings forum members back to your blog.

In your member profile, be sure to use a "signature" that includes a link back to your blog. Make certain the signature appears on all of your postings. Without that link, no new traffic can find you.

2. Tell everyone you know about your blog

This offline networking technique will bring a fresh batch of visitors to your blog. As you become more comfortable with talking to people about your blog, your traffic numbers will take a jump. Many of them will surf to your blog, to read what you have to say.

But remember, only ask your friend or relative to visit your blog, but do not mention or request them to click the ads for you. Encouragement or providing incentives to click your ads is highly prohibited under Google’s TOS. Bear that in mind!

3. Put your links on your e-mails

When you send out any e-mails, either personal or business, be sure to add a link to your blog to each and every one of them. With a quick and easy to click hot link back to your blog, many of your e-mail recipients will drop by for a look.

While not everyone will check out your blogging activities, a few will. Another source of new visitors has been added, with minimum effort. These three free and quickest methods are, after trial, quite effective to drive traffic to a new blog. You should make a try on them now and start earning big bucks through Adsense!

What are CPC and CPM Ads?

When will Google pay us? Why there are some clicks on my ads, but there are no earning? I am pretty sure that those are not invalid clicks, then how come? What is the difference between CPC ads and CPM ads? On what basis they will lead to earning for me? In this post, I am going to explain the difference between the two.

For CPC ad, you will get paid whenever there is a click on this kind of ad, provided that the click is valid. The CPC is the amount an advertiser pays each time a user clicks on his/her ad. In Google Adsense, most of the ads is CPC ads, and you will get paid when there is click on it. Most of them pay in a range from 0.01 to 2 dollars. You should be lucky when you recieve two dollar for a click. Nearly all of the contextual ads and a portion of image ads belong to this kind of advertisements.

For CPM ad, it means Cost Per 1000 Impression. Advertisers running CPM ads set their desired price per 1000 ads served. You will get paid whenever there are 1000 impressions for that CPM ad. CPM ads compete against pay-per-click (or CPC, cost per click) ads in Google's ad auction system, so only the highest performing ads will be served to your pages. Advertisers will need to bid a higher CPM than the existing CPC ads in order to show. Both image ads and text ads can be paid on CPM basis, and both of them are always site-targeted. CPM text ads will expand to take up the entire ad unit. One thing that you should always bear in mind is that, for CPM ads, your earnings are associated with impressions only, rather than clicks. Google pays you each time a CPM ad is shown on your page, rather than when a user clicks on the ad and views the advertiser's site.

So, you may wonder how you can check the earning performance of your CPM ads. Actually, the statistics (ad impression and clicks) of CPM ads will be shown together with that of CPC ads in general report in your account. Sometimes, you may notice that even though you've received impressions for CPM ads, you're not displaying any earnings. No worry. This is because an advertiser may pay as little as $0.50 for each 1000 impressions of an ad. With each impression worth $0.0005, you could receive up to 9 ad impressions for total revenue of $0.0045 without any clicks or earnings appearing in your report. So, you may afraid your earning will be lost when it cannot come to a significant figure. No worry. Although Google will only show earning that is more than one cent, all the earning from impressions of CPM ads that is below one cents will be recorded and accumulated. It will then show whenever it reaches one cent.
Since CPM ads are paid on the number of ad impression, the location of the CPM ads highly affect the overall earnings for you. For example, if you put your CPM ad on top of your site, you definitely recieve more ad impression for that and have higher income, and vice versa.
Although there is no offical figure to prove, there is a general belief that most of the image ads are paid on CPM basis, while only little text ads are paid on CPM basis. To be honest, from my experience, CPC ads perform a lot better than CPM ads. The only suitable place to put CPM ads is probably the forum site. It is because in a forum site, the usual and regular visitors already get used to the ads there. They tend to have a much lower CTR, and thus CPM ads (which are not paid on clicks) are the most effective to maximize your earning.

What are Adsense Channels???

After you logging into your Adsense account, you may wonder what a channel is for the first few times. I specifically write this post in order to let you know what is a channel, what is the use of it, how to maximize the potential of it. Stay tune!

There are two types of channels, one is URL channel, and the other is custom channel. There are some differences between two of them. But before going into that detail, I would like to explain more what is the function of it.

Channel can be assigned accordig to your preference during the generation of Adsense HMTL code. It is used to monitor the performance of an ad unit, or the set of ads units under a particular URL. As I have mentioned before in the previous posts, you need to adjust and fine-tune your ads (no matter their locations, the colors, the formats etc.), in order to get the maximizing performance of your Adsense ads. But how would you know how much does a particular ad unit earn per day?

By assigning a channel, you can closely monitor a particular ad, or a set of ads, and have the statistics of ads impressions, clicks and earnings. With these statistics, you can easily know which ads perform well, and should be kept. On the other hand, if an ad is underperformed (such as no clicks, low earnings etc.), then you need to make a change to it, or even eliminate it.

So, what is a URL channel? It is a channel that monitors all the ads units displaying under the URL you have provided. For example, if you choose the top domain "www.hkessay.com" as the URL of a URL channel, then the report of which will show the statistics about all ads units under the top domain of www.hkessay.com and also all its subdomains. On the other hand, if you choose a sub-domain "www.hkessay.com/freeessay" as the URL, then only the ads within the subdomains will be included in the report. However, personally, I do not think URL channel is useful. At least, it is less useful than custom channel.

What is a custom channel? A custom channel is assigned to a particular ad unit when you generate the Adsense HTML code. It can monitor that particular ad and show the statistics of its performance, inmpressions, clicks and earning. Since it is so specific, it is more popular and useful.

Also, one minor point to note, you can have up to 200 AdSense channels. You can use channels to gain the insight you need to optimize your site's performance. It's easy to add, deactivate, or rename your channels, and customized reports are simple to generate. Hope you find this post useful.

Different terms in Adsense

If you are new to Adsense, you may find some terms that are quite new to you. After loggin into your Adsense Account, the default page should be your "report" page showing different statistics about your adsense site(s). In that table of statistics, there are three terms that you should know and familiar with. They are impr1ession, Click Through Rate (CTR), and eCPM. Therefore, in this post, I aim to introduce these three terms to you.

1. Impressions

Whenever a visitor comes to a site and land on a page, he/she recieves an impression. Impressions are the number of times your webpages with Adsense ads have been viewed. In fact, you can divide the big term "impression" into two specific areas: page impression and ad impression. You can increase impressions by increasing traffic (preferably targeted traffic) to your webpages. Some of the best ways to increase targeted traffic to your webpages include: -create more webpages, with relevant, focused content -create more links to your webpages -list your website/s under relevant categories in more directories -set up a directory of relevant sites on your website and accept relevant reciprocal links -write relevant articles, with your site information in the 'resource box' at the end of each article, and submit them to article directories

2. Clickthroughs

Clickthroughs, whihc are often known as CTR for short, are the percentage of viewers who click on your Adsense ads. You can increase Clickthroughs by increasing the relevance of Adsense ads on your site, and by tweaking the format and placing of your ads.

If every page on your site focuses tightly on the site topic, its more likely that the Adsense ads will too. For example, if every page of your site is about fishing, and the word 'fishing' appears several times on every page, its likely that your Adsense ads will relate to fishing. The best way to tweak your ad format and placement is to invest in an Adsense Tracker, and test, test, test! People who have done this tend to suggest that the best format is the large rectangle, with background and border the same color as the page behind it, so that the ad blends into the page. The best placement is towards the center or top left of the first screen of the page. Try these suggestions first, and then track and test, to be sure of what works best for your pages.

3. Effective CPM

Effective CPM is a measure of your average earnings, per thousand clicks. You can increase your Effective CPM by selecting topics that attract high bids from Adsense advertisers, and building pages and whole websites on higher paying topics. Although Google doesn't release information on Adsense bids, you can get a good idea of the top paying topics by looking at information on Adwords bids, or, for that matter, bids on pay-per-click search engines like Overture. There are a number of keyword research tools available, both free and paid, that can help you find high paying topics.
*The Formula*
So now you have the basics of increasing your Adsense income. Its a deceptively simple formula:
-Build pages and websites on high paying topics for the best Effective CPM.
-Format and place your Adsense ads for maximum Clickthroughs.
-Promote your sites to drive targeted traffic to your Adsense webpages for maximum impressions.
